Canadian Ambassadors Alumni Association Fund for Supporting Student Internships Abroad

“The Canadian Ambassadors Alumni Association (until recently known as RHOMA) has established a fund for supporting student internships abroad and offers financial assistance for travel expenses to graduate and upper level undergraduate University of Victoria students. The fund will be administered through the Centre for Global Studies (CFGS) or the Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives (CAPI). Funding will contribute to an internship abroad at a Canadian mission, an international governmental organization (e.g. United Nations or its agencies, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organisation, Organisation of American States)  or a credible international non-governmental organisation, as part of the participants academic program.

Over the next 3 years, CAPI and CFGS will be awarding one scholarship per year with a value of $2000 per year. Positions will be posted and the centres will jointly approve the selected scholar.

In 2019, CAPI awarded the scholarship  Luisa Schwarz, a UVic student in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. Her internship was with the Karenni Social Development Centre which works with refugees on the Thai-Myanmar border .
Information about Luisa Schwarz including her blog and her “Karenni Traditional Storybook” Capstone Project are found in the links. Here is a photo of Luisa   (on the left with Robyn Fila (Program Manager and daughter  Karunia Fila)

In 2020, owing to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the scholarship was not awarded.

In 2021, CFGS will be awarding the scholarship.

In 2022 – CAPI and CFGS will jointly award the scholarship.
